1. Pilot Whales

Pilot whale, scientifically known as “Genus Globicephala” belongs to the dolphin family “Delphinidae”. This fish is considered as the second-largest dolphin in the world. There are two types of pilot whales found in all the oceans across the world- the short-finned pilot whale (Globicephala Macrorhynchus) and long-finned pilot whale ( Globicephala Melas). 

The long-finned pilot whales inhabit cold waters and short-finned pilot whales are found in tropical and subtropical waters. Both the fishes are black in color and have a light-grey anchor-shaped mark on the throat and belly. They can reach up to 4 to 6 meters in length and weigh about 1300-2300 kg. Males are larger than females. Pilot Whales consume squid as well as fish.

2. Banner Fish 

This fish with long fins is an ideal choice for the home aquarium. The scientific name of this fish is “Heniochus Diphreutes,” a member of the “Chaetodontinae” family. Bannerfish is called “False Moorish Idol” as its appearance is similar to Moorish Idol fish. These fish inhabit the Indo-Pacific area. Bannerfish is a small fish and can reach up to 18-21 cm. 

They have a compressed body, long median yellow-colored fins, short snout, and extensive mouth. Bannerfish prefer to live on the external reef, slopes, and channels at the depth of 5-30 m.

3. Dorado Dolphin Fish

Dorado dolphin fish is scientifically known as “Coryphaena Hippurus.” This fish has other names like “Mahi-Mahi,” “ Pompano,” “ Dorado,” etc. This fish with a dorsal fin is 1 meter long and 40 kilograms in weight. Dolphin fish is not a dolphin. It is a type of ray-finned fish, belonging to the genus Coryphaena. 

Dorado fish are carnivorous and their maximum lifespan is five years. They are known for their distinguished features like single dorsal fin, protruding foreheads, etc. Dorado dolphin fish are fast swimmers and mostly found in the temperate, tropical, and subtropical oceans across the world.

4. White Shark

The white shark is one of the largest species in the world, belonging to the family of Lamnidae. This fish with big fins is also referred to as a” White pointer,” mostly residing in the coastal waters where an abundance of fishes and marine mammals are found.

White sharks have a blunt torpedo-shaped body, sharply pointed conical snout, large pectoral and dorsal fins, and a strong crescent-shaped tail. Their upper body is dark-blue to gray, the lower part of the body is whitish. 

These fish can reach up to 6.4 meters in length and weigh between 680 to 1800 kilograms. White Shark is scientifically known as “Carcharodon Carcharias,” and eats sea turtles, sea lions, dolphins, small whales, etc.
